Every year, nearly 40 million adults are diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Anxiety can be anything from a normal feeling of occasional worry to an incapacitating loop of nervous emotions that can interfere with daily functioning. Some people experience anxiety in the form of panic attacks, phobias, catastrophic thinking, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, excessive worry, or a general feeling of nervousness.
Help is available: outpatient treatment programs are appropriate if your anxiety is moderate, or if you've just completed a residential program and would like additional help as you transition back to regular life.
Outpatient care usually provides the same intensity of care as an inpatient program, but you can return home after your therapy sessions so you don't have to put your work and personal life on hold while seeking treatment. It is ideal if you can't step away from your daily responsibilities, or if the cost of treatment is an issue, as outpatient therapy is more affordable than inpatient treatment.
